New Teaching Aids

The following new items are Montessori sensory materials and would be used to increase children's ability to distinguish, classify and organize according to the various senses. Many of them also encourage and support children's readiness for writing and reading.

Pink Tower - Children arrange the ten wooden cubes of varying sizes into a tower. This activity helps them to develop visual discrimination of dimension, and prepares them for mathematical concepts in the decimal system, geometry and volume.

Red Rods - The child arranges the rods from largest to smallest,  developing discrimination of length.
Cylinder Blocks - Consists of 4 individual wooden blocks that have holes of various sizes and matching cylinders.  Children remove the cylinders in random order, then match each cylinder to the correct hole to aid in visual discrimination of size.

Smelling Bottles - Substances with various scents are placed in the bottles and children match the bottles according to smell.

Baric Tablets - Children work with three sets of rectangular pieces of wood that vary according to weight - light, medium and heavy.  Then they match the tablets according to weight.
Color Tablets - Contains 11 pairs of color tablets which can be used to teach color identification and discrimination.

Fabric Box - The box contains 12 matching swatches of different fabrics. Children pair the fabrics according to the varying textures by using sense of touch.

Thermic Bottles - The 8 metal bottles are filled with water of varying temperatures.  Teaches children about identifying and distinguishing between different temperatures.
